Marti Fessenden has a unique 30-year career in law, higher education administration and non-profit leadership. She has practiced law for more than 25 years, most recently founding her own law firm – The Fessenden Firm – after practicing for more than two decades with outstanding firms in Atlanta and Philadelphia. Her college administration career began at Emory University where she held several campus life administration positions before leaving to start her law career in Philadelphia.
Throughout her years in legal practice, Ms. Fessenden has remained involved in non-profit leadership and higher education. She has served as an adjunct professor and trial advocacy volunteer faculty for Emory University School of Law. She combined her love of working with students, athletics, organizational effectiveness and volunteering in the national non-profit sector by serving as the Chairperson for the US Lacrosse Board of Directors and other key governance committees. She is a former board member and Chair for the Oakhurst Community Garden Project / Wylde Center in Decatur, Georgia and continues to promote farm-to-school initiatives in her community. Marti is also a certified girl’s and women’s lacrosse official.
Ms. Fessenden has a wealth of international travel and programmatic experience. She took sabbaticals in 1996 (University of Pittsburgh) and 2011 to serve as Assistant Executive Dean for the University of Virginia’s Semester at Sea program, a program that provides shipboard academic education for more than 600 college students while exploring 12 countries on its voyage around the world. Before founding her firm, Ms. Fessenden sailed as the Chief Administrator (Executive Dean) for the Summer 2014 UVA Semester at Sea voyage throughout the Baltics and Scandinavia. She has also traveled independently around the world by backpack.
Ms. Fessenden holds a JD from Emory University School of Law. She earned her M.Ed. from the University of Florida where she also holds a B.A. in Psychology. She is a member of the University of Florida Hall of Fame for her achievements in campus life leadership.

Ms. Fessenden currently practices law with The Fessenden Firm in Atlanta, Georgia where she lives with her partner and daughter. She continues to seek opportunities to return to higher education on a permanent basis. She also continues to serve on national board committees, including US Lacrosse’s Ethics Advisory Committee. Ms. Fessenden has been admitted to the State Bars of Georgia, Pennsylvania and New Jersey – and to the bar of the Navajo Nation where she briefly practiced law early in her career with DNA Peoples Legal Services.
